7 Christmas Albums to Spruce Up Your Holidays

You know it's the holiday season when you can hear The Carpenter's "Christmas Portrait" blaring through the halls at the Craig home. I think all of us sisters can agree that the sound of Christmas is Karen Carpenter's rich alto voice.  I can even remember leaping through our family room to "Carol of the Bells".
Whether you are looking for a classic Christmas album, or a more contemporary take on the carols of old, I've rounded up a list of six Christmas albums that will spruce up your holiday season.

7. Sufjan Stevens, "Songs for Christmas" is a contemporary and at times cheeky take on the classic Christmas songs.  If you're a fan of folky/acoustic/quirky music, than you're in for a real treat.

6. Louis Armstrong & Friends, "What a Wonderful Christmas" is a classic jazz album, chuck full of talent, and wrapped in a blanket of snow.

5. Spirit of The Season: Christmas with Sissel and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is an impressive album featuring the crystal clear and shimmering Sissel.  She makes these old carols seem new.  Need I say more?

4. Sarah Mclachlan, "Wintersong" is my favorite contemporary artist holiday album.  It is equally simple and beautiful in arrangement, however Sarah's voice creates a breathtakingly peaceful environment.

3. Nat King Cole, "Christmas Song" is a classic declaration of the merry holiday season.  Nat's warm voice is present with an accompanying choir in several pieces.

2. Ella Fitzgerald, "Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas" is just what it says, swinging.  And who can resist Ella's contagious scatting beats?

1. The Carpenters, "Christmas Portrait" is what Christmas sounds like.  Karen's rich alto voice, and Richard's rich arrangements of these popular songs will serenade you throughout your Christmas season.  I will go so far as to say that this is the best Christmas Album of all time.
