Christmas Tradition: Hot Wassail

First things first, Merry Christmas from the Sisters at Fry Sauce & Grits!
Here at the Craig home we have a Christmas tradition of making hot wassail every Christmas Eve. So I thought I'd share with you this family recipe -- it is the season of giving, afterall! I always grew up drinking this citrus-y drink every Christmas, and since, it has become a staple to the Christmas Season.

Hot Wassail

2 cinnamon sticks
2 cups sugar
8-12 cloves
1 small can frozen lemonade
1 small can frozen orange juice
1 small can frozen apple juice

In large kettle, mix 3 quarts water and sugar until dissolved.  Bring to a boil.  Turn off heat and let stand 1 hour.  Add spices to cheesecloth bag and leave in mixture during hour stand.  Stir in frozen lemonade, orange, and apple juice.  Stir on low heat.  Heat and serve.  Spices may be removed at any time.  The longer they remain, the stronger spiced.

*** I will note that if left on the stove for longer than a week, it sometimes starts to ferment.  Just a caution! :)

What is your favorite Christmas Family Tradition in your household?
