Swig Sugar Cookie and Dirty Diet Coke Birthday Party

Last week was McKay's 31st birthday.  I kind of waited to the last minute to plan something for his birthday, like the day before.  So I didn't have much fun to prepare anything extravagant.  I love to throw get togethers with our friends, but I'm not the type of party planner who has exquisite looking centerpieces, arrangements, and food hutches like you see on Pinterest.  Nope, that's not me.  I try to strive for simplicity because seriously, all that people care about at a party is that there's good company and good food.  Nobody is going to care about the printables, matching colors, and goodie bag.  Last month we traveled to Southern Utah and fell in love with Swig and I thought it would be so fun to throw McKay a Swig themed party full of cold sugar cookies and dirty Coke's!  I texted a bunch of our neighborhood friends letting them know of the birthday party and we hung out in our backyard, ate, drank, the kiddies ran around while the men played basketball and the girls chit chatted.  It was the perfect, non stress, relaxing, and carefree birthday party.  This is a great last minute birthday party idea because it's so easy.

A Stunning Fall Southern Wedding

Now that it's spring I don't like to mention fall or winter, but in this case I will, because I just have to share!

Last fall when I was nine months prego--I had the pleasure of doing Lauren's makeup for her wedding.  She was a beautiful and gracious bride.  I loved working with such a sweet and happy person.

Scroll through the pictures and be inspired by this elegant wedding!

Paleo Chia Seed Energy Bars

T-minus one month until Caitlin's wedding and I've been trying hard to eating better, no sugar, limit grains and dairy, and eat tons of fruits, veggies, and lean protein so I can fit comfortably into the dress I'll be wearing to the wedding.  To keep me motivated I've had to do some research on some desserts that will satisfy my sweet tooth.  I found this recipe for Chia Seed Protein Bars from All Day I Dream About Food and didn't have the exact ingredients this recipe called for.  So I substituted some of them with what I had in my kitchen.  These Paleo Chia Seed Protein Bars turned out really good and they taste almost as sinful as a candy bar, but in a more healthy way.  These bars are dairy free, sugar free and paleo!   These are perfect for on the go, for a dessert, or a midday snack.

My tips on using milk paint and how to get a non chippy look

how to get a non chippy look with milk paint from Fry Sauce and Grits

Earlier this week I posted about how I used milk paint to completely transform a dated china hutch in my living room.  I used Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint to do the job.  This was my first time using milk paint and I didn't know what to expect when I first started it.  Of course I did as much research as I could but when you actually do it, you learn a lot.  In this post I'm going talk about some of the things I learned when I painted my china cabinet, and what you should and shouldn't do to achieve that non chippy look with milk paint.

Since I have become a mommy, I am going many more days without makeup.  And, when I do wear makeup, I wear a lot less because I just don't have the time.  But, I still want to look polished instead of a hot mess, so I'm working on prioritizing my makeup routine.  I wanted to share with y'all some tricks I have learned along the way!

Easter and Spring Themed Succulent Terrarium and Fireplace Mantel

Easter is right around the corner and at my house I try my hardest to make it look somewhat festive.  I think last year was the first time I purchased some Easter/spring decorations I bought on clearance after Easter.  So this year I knew I wanted to keep that tradition up but add some subtle Easter decor throughout the house.  I'm not a huge fan of decorating the ENTIRE house for the holidays and spending hours doing it.   That's a lot of pressure and takes up a lot of time.  One of my favorite stores is Cost Plus World Market because they have such a fun and eclectic decor, ethnic foods, stylish house ware items.  You can spend hours there.  When I decorate for the holidays I like to keep it simple, and my rule of thumb is keep the holiday decorations to only 2-3 areas in the home.  Like the front porch, my entry way to the living room, and fireplace mantel in the family room.

One of my favorite things is to bring the outdoors in.  We love plants in our family and anyway I can add a bit of greenery in our house, I'm all for it. That's why I thought it would be really fun to create a seasonal terrarium where I add things to it during each holiday to make it festive.

China Cabinet Makeover with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint

Oak China Cabinet Redo from Fry Sauce and Grits

This post has been a long time coming.  After all of the Christmas festivities, I made it a goal for the New Year to paint this 80's looking oak china cabinet we've had in our living room for the past three years.  It was time for a much needed paint makeover.  I didn't want to do a latex paint and have it look really glossy.  I wanted it to look like I spent a lot of money on it and wanted to make a statement with this piece.  This china cabinet has some really good bones, is made from solid wood, and has really beautiful antique brass glass leaded windows and shelves.  After some research I came across this stuff called milk paint.  Milk paint is normally known for having that chippy look, I knew I didn't want the chippy look on this china cabinet. I saw pictures of milk paint where it was smooth, not chippy, and it looked gorgeous.  So that's when I decided to use Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint to do the job.
