Hello! I'm really excited to talk about this topic. I have an obsession with sunscreens. I get excited when I see a new sunscreen on the market. This passion for sunscreen stems from being apart of a family of redheads with very pale skin. We weren't like the typical family. We're like vampire, we don't tan, we burn. All of my life whenever my family and I would go anywhere we were always slathering gobs of sunscreen all over our bodies all the time to protect our delicate white skin against the radioactive waves from the sun. It wasn't until my dad found skin cancer on his body was when I knew I wanted to make sure my children understand the importance of taking care of their skin against getting burned, skin cancer, and premature aging. We used A LOT of sunscreen while vacationing down in Alabama. Sorry Caitlin, mermaids don't wear t-shirts.
There's so many different types of sunscreens out there and it can feel overwhelming as to which sunscreens are the most effective. Believe me, I've tried A LOT of sunscreens. As I've tried hundreds of sunscreens I've found there are sunscreens that are best to use for certain activities. It's a lot like shoes. You wouldn't wear heels while running a marathon, and you wouldn't want to wear a thick and creamy sunscreen underneath your makeup everyday. This would make your makeup feel so thick and heavy, YUCK! I've finally found my defense against the sun. These six sunscreens I recommend will make taking care of your skin against the sun easier and more convenient and who doesn't love that!
Best Everyday Sunscreen
$8.99
I first used this sunscreen when McKay and I traveled to Costa Rica back in 2009. We ran out of sunscreen while vacationing there and this was the only kind sold at the stores there so I purchased a bottle and fell in love with it! This sunscreen has a nice creamy texture that does a great job of moisturizing your skin and has the most delicious tropical smell! This was a delight to slather on. This also did a great job of protecting my skin during our trip (especially being so close to the equator, the sun rays are a lot more potent there!) This could be used as an everyday sunscreen, but I really like to use it when I'm at the pool, beach, vacation, or water park because it brings me back the fond memories of traveling through Costa Rica.
Best Baby Sunscreen
$7.99
This year was my first time buying baby sunscreen and I really like the Coppertone Water Babies sunscreen the best. It's pediatrician recommended and not only does this go on the skin easily, but it gives Amelia a nice little glow to her skin. The other thing I like about this sunscreen is its way AFFORDABLE, you can find it everywhere, it's water resistant, I love the shape of the bottle (it's easy to grip), and has a sturdy cap so I don't have to worry about Amelia opening it up. Thank you for thinking of mothers!
Best Mineral/Powder Sunscreen
$50
When I found ColoreScience six years ago, it changed my life (for real)! At that time I was traveling a lot for work and my car was my office. When you drive all day, you get a lot of sun exposure. I wanted to protect my face, neck, and arms from the sun but I didn't want to put on a thick creamy layer of greasy sunscreen all over my body while I'm trying to interact with clients and co-workers. Have you ever had this dilemma? This sunscreen is perfect for those instances when you want to look nice and need some extra protection throughout the day. You could use this sunscreen for pictures, weddings, work, running errands, or playing with your kids at the park. The sunscreen is a mineral powder that comes out of the brush! There's a handful of colors so you can match your skin color. Talk about genius! You brush it on your face and it does a great job of covering up any oiliness on your face while making you look natural and fresh. It's hypoallergenic and doesn't clog pores because it's a very light weight powder. When you run out of the loose powder, you can purchase refills. I have this in my purse at ALL TIMES! I use it everyday and am obsessed with it.
Best Active Body Sunscreen
$8
This is my go-to sunscreen for when I'm going running, hiking, camping, swimming, and being active. I love how its really really EASY to apply. You spray there, spray here, and you're done! The spray sunscreen really cuts down the time of application and isn't messy when you apply it. The skin absorbs the sunscreen real quickly and doesn't leave you feeling greasy, which is really nice especially when you're sweating. This sunscreen is really reasonably priced, available everywhere, effective, and a good old classic.
Best Non-Makeup/Active Face Sunscreen
$30
The Neova TI-SILC Sheer SPF 50 is the best sunscreen for when I'm not wearing makeup but want sun protection in a sheer and natural finish. This sunscreen is tinted so it gives you some coverage, a nice glow, and and even toned look. The formula blends effortlessly, doesn't break my face out, moisturizes at the same time, and is dermatologist recommended. When I sweat it doesn't get into my eyes which is a major plus!
Best Makeup Sunscreen
$34
This top rated sunscreen is part of my daily morning beauty regiment. After I put my moisturizer on, I put a layer of this sunscreen on my face and neck. Before I used this sunscreen I used a regular heavy and thick face sunscreen. This made my face feel heavy and like I was wearing 10 layers of makeup. Don't you hate that feeling? This is lightweight, tinted, oil free, broad-spectrum, has a SPF of 50, and is safe to use on my face. A lot of my makeup like powder and foundation doesn't have any SPF in it, so this sunscreen makes up for all of that. I love this sunscreen and I use it everyday.
What other sunscreens do you love and cherish? Do you have any sunscreen tips or tricks? Let me know, I'm always looking for new sunscreens to try!
Love this post! Thank you for the great reviews. I'm especially excited about the powder sunscreen. That seems amazing! I'm happy I found you through Utah Bloggers.
ReplyDeleteKami, this is my favorite because it works so well with busy lifestyles like mine! We'll have to be friends on Utah Bloggers for sure! Thanks for commenting!
DeleteWe have always used the same sunscreen for our face and body. I started using different ones for each and love it.
ReplyDeleteI did that too all growing up. I found the sunscreen you would use for body would break my skin out on my face. It can be a small investment to purchase a different sunscreen for your face, but it's totally worth it.
DeleteThis is great! I have recently been diagnosed with Lupus, so the sun is no good for me. I have been using Neutrogena Moisturizer with and SPF 60 and while it does the trick, it's a little bit thick. I might try the Sun Ceuticals if they have one with no color. I will have to check that out. Thanks for this post.
ReplyDeleteKathleen, I'm sorry to hear your disease! That must make it hard to enjoy the nice weather outside. I love Sun Ceuticals! I wear this underneath my foundation and it doesn't make my makeup feel heavy at all. You should try it and let me know how it goes!
DeleteThanks so much for posting this. I am in the sun a lot in the summertime and am always on the lookout for quality products. I've tried Anthelios for my face and liked it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Anthelios, I'll have to try it! Where do you get it at?
DeleteGreat information! I'm always trying to remember to lather on the SPF, but sometimes it can be hard to remember. I've been using Olay's Fresh Effects BB Cream, which has an added SPF in it. LOVE IT this summer!
ReplyDeleteI love BB Cream! It's great for the summer!
DeleteI love the baby sunscreen! That's the only kind we will use. I've never heard of that powdered one though...I'll have to look int it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like it too! Sometimes the most affordable ones are the best I find.
