Fry Sauce & Grits: Bra Guide & Consults

Bra Guide & Consults

Are you need in a bra and have no idea where to go to get fitted and want a professional to help you find a bra that actually fits?  I can help you find the perfect fitting bra with no stress or gnashing of teeth.

I offer in person and online bra consultations to fit the needs of women who live in Northern Utah or who live far away from bra shopping options.

In Person Consultation: $50 for 1 hour

For those who live in northern Utah I can personally meet you at one of my local and favorite bra store where I'll measure you, figure out what your bra needs are depending on your lifestyle, answer your bra questions and concerns, teach and help you find the perfect fitting bra without breaking a sweat.  I can help you find sports bras, strapless, nursing, everyday bras, and am certified to fit mastectomy bras, and prosthetic breasts.

This also makes a great bachelorette, baby and wedding shower party, or a fun girl's night out!  With large groups I charge on a case by case basis.  For rates, contact me at cfrysauceandgrits@gmail.com.

Online Consultation: $40 for 1 hour video conference session

If you don't live in Utah, I offer bra consultations over Skype or Google+ Hangouts.  The first step is figuring out your needs, where I'll send you a detailed questionnaire that will help me to get to know you, determine what kind of bra(s) you're looking for, and get your measurements.  Once I receive that, I'll send you links to bras I want you to purchase.  We'll set up a time to meet online after you receive all of the bras.  During the conference call I'll have you try on the bras, and show me each of them so I can see which bras are fitting you.  If more bras need to be ordered, we'll set up another follow up appointment.

To schedule a time with me, fill out my bra questionnaire form, I will contact you after I recieve it.  Please allow at least 24 hours for me to respond.

Once we figure out a time and place where we'll meet I'll send you a Paypal invoice where payments have to be paid in full before the consultation will start.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at cfrysauceandgrits@gmail.com.

    1. I would recommend you going to a place that specializes in masectomy bras and fitting for them. I recommend you go to Nordstrom because all of the bra fitters are certified to fit masectomy bras. I used the Amoena bras I really like them. Here is a link that tells you more about the masectomy program at Nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/breast-prosthesis-program. One question I have to ask you is what type of masectomy did you receive? Are you wearing a prosthetic? Once I know this I can help direct you to where I would go for help.

  2. Thank you so much for your informative posts. I have a problem… I am a 14 year old Asian and have very small breasts. I suspect the bras that I currently wear are too small for me. But after reading your posts, I am not sure. My bras go out of shape after wearing them for a few months. The top edge of the cup curl outwards slightly and the middle part sinks in. Common sense tells me that it's too big… But I'm not sure, help? I hate it when the edge of my bra is able to be seen through my shirt :( Thank you!

    1. Hey Jia, when you say your bras go out of shape, do you mean that the cup dimples or has wrinkles in them? If so, that means your cup size is too big. From your other descriptions, sounds like it's time to start out fresh and new in the bra department. I would go to a department store like Nordstrom or a bra boutique that specializes in bra fitting and get fitted. That's the first step. There, they'll be able to guide you as to what types of bras and your size. For small and petite Asian women, I recommend petite bras. Go to this link, and scroll down to where you see the small breast section. I list my recommendations for small breasted women, here's the link: http://www.frysauceandgrits.com/2013/11/bra-guide-how-to-identify-your-breast.html

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! And thanks for stopping by!

  3. I'm a 32H when pregnant/nursing and a 32F when not. I work 34B/Cs before going to a bra salon and getting fitted! I love your posts and I love all the info! It is SO hard to find a comfortable fit and I'm on the hunt again. Here's my problem; I've worn several brands and styles over the last 4 years and on ALL but one style nursing bra the straps are too wide set and sit right at the end of my shoulders. Very uncomfortable and tends make the outside edge of the cup sit against my upper arm instead of cupping my books. Do you have suggestions for this or brands that cater to small frame, large bust? P. S. I have been fitted at several different bra salons, at different stages (pregnant and not, nursing and not, etc...), and have tried several different sizes with different combinations of band and cup sizes moving up and down as you suggested, and different brands (fantasie, panache, Anita nursing bra, etc...).

    1. Hey Bett! Can I ask you, what brand do you find works for you? When it comes to nursing bras I really like Anita International and Freya for smaller band sizes. Here's are some of my favorite styles in your size:

  4. Honestly the Anita Microfiber Nursing Bra #5068 is the only style that has fit the most comfortably for a nursing bra. I've had several others but they all have their issues. Probably poor fitting but the nearest bra salon or large department store is 3.5 hrs away (we live in small town Texas) so my best option is to order online which means I don't get to try on. It doesn't help that I'm incredibly picky. I like a smooth cup so there are no lines to show through my shirts.
For none nursing I have one style of fantasie bra that works but the straps are still really wide set. It's the best option I've come up with so far and I did get fitted in a salon for that one. I tried multiple styles and brands over several visits and that was the best we could come up with.
So excited to read the post on nursing bras! Will be watching for it to come out. Thank you so much for all this info. Though I have visited bra salons and been fitted multiple times, they've never told me what kind of things they're looking at or how to diagnose a good fit; just asked, "how does that feel?". A little education years ago would have been so nice. =->

  5. Hi Courtney,

my band size is measuring 39-1/2 and bust is measuring 48in. I'm 7 weeks post partum and nursing and my breast shape best fits in with the "sagging" club (haha).

    First question: If I did this right, I'm a 38/40 H?

2nd Question: Which brand(s) do you recommend for nursing bras for us bigger sized girls?

    1. Hey Ashley! I like my bras snug because they give you extra support and lift. I would recommend you trying on a 40 band, and then a 38 band, to see which one you like best. I can tell you that a 38 band will fit a lot more snug and last you longer. If you're looking for comfort, then you might want to go with the 40. The cup size, from your measurement I would probably start with a "I" cup. If the I cup is too big, then go with the H cup. Let's pretend you try on a 40I and the cup size fits good, but you want the band to be more snug and supportive, if you go down to a 38, you have to go up a cup size to compensate the difference. So in a 38 band you would wear a 38J.

FYI, I'm in the process of writing a post about how to find the correct nursing bra. Stay tuned, because I think it will help a lot of women like yourselves. Also, I'm going to start doing bra consultations, would you want to be a beta tester for one? Please email me at cfrysauceandgrits@gmail.com to let me know if you're interested.

I really like Goddess, Elomi, and Anita International, and Freya nursing bras for bigger cup size gals.

Here are some of my favorite nursing bras in larger cup sizes:

  8. Where do you start after reduction/reconstruction? I was a size 42G and was fairly content with my Lane Bryant Cacique bras, but after reduction/reconstruction due to breast cancer, I don't know where to begin. I am not ready to go out today and buy a bra, because I am still healing, but thought I would go ahead and start thinking about it. I was reduced to a D cup and my breasts are more cone shaped than before as a G.

    1. After having surgery, I would get fitted by a person who is familiar with reconstructions and prosthetics because they'll be able to help you to determine what bras will fit you when it comes to your breast shape. I've experienced in fitting women for bras who've had breast cancer and reduction/reconstruction. If you need help with sizing or bra recommendations you can contact me at cfrysauceandgrits@gmail.com.

  10. I found your guide last week and hopped over to Nordstom's over the weekend to get a bra fitting. The fitter decided I was a 36DDD and gave me Wacoal bras. They were all so snug and when I asked for a bigger band she told me no, that this was my right size and that they would stretch. I bought one bra, took it ome and tried it on some more. Here's my issue, the band is so tight that after 30 minutes it leaves deep red grooves in my skin. It's insanely uncomfortable and bordering on painful. Is that normal? I can't handle that, not at all and will be returning the bra this coming weekend. Is it okay for me to try the 38 DD instead? That should be universal sizing that would apply to any bra I tried on, right?

    1. Hey Azul! It's very normal to be kind of uncomfortable when you have a bra that fits, the reason because is you're not used to having it snug. Your bra fitter lady is correct, it will feel really snug at first, but will loosen after a couple of days. Keep wearing it and if you still feel really uncomfortable after a week, then go take it back and ask to be put into a 38DD. Everyone is different. Some women are more sensitive to tightness then others. What's most important is that you're comfortable.

  11. Is it too late to post a question? I just found your blog on bra sizing through Pinterest. I have no cleavage but my breasts are probably a C cup. That's because my breasts are so far apart on my chest. There is always lots of "spillage" of breast tissue underneath my arms outside of the cups but the center fits OK. If I go up a cup size there is gapping in the center and still spillage on the side. I wish someone would make a bra with cups that could be individually moved laterally to each side. All of the bras try to cram your breasts together to accentuate the cleavage, probably because the bra design industry is controlled by men and they think all women want to maximize their cleavage. I just want a comfortable bra and I don't care about what men think about my cleavage--or lack thereof. Are there bras that cater to women who have their breasts practically coming out of the sides of their rib cages?

    1. Yes, but they're not marketed as wider set cups. The style of cup is going to be the most important for you. First, I would go get fitted by a professional. By going to a professional you won't have to try on a 100 bras, they'll be able to know what your breast shape is and determine which bras will fit you best. I do bra fittings online, you can contact me at cfrysauceandgrits@gmail.com if you're interested. The type of bras you're going to want to try on are soft cup bras. These bras are more forgiving to women who have different shapes in their breasts. So stay away from molded cups.
