Art Nouveau and Eclectic Nursery

Amelia is turning two in a couple months and I cannot believe I've never posted pictures of her nursery. Yeah, I'm pretty lame.  Recently I've added some new touches to the room and wanted to share them with y'all.

Some history behind her nursery.  The week I found out I was pregnant, I started to design two different nurseries, one for a boy and for a girl.  When we found out Amelia was a girl, I knew instantly what I wanted to do for her room.  I really love the Art Nouveau period of the late 1800's and early 1900's.  It's mixes nature and modernism and it was one of my favorite periods to study when I was studying interior design classes in college.

I have an antique copy of this book called Mother Earth's Children The Frolics of the Fruits and Vegetables and loved it as a child.  I really wanted to incorporate this book into her nursery decor.  This is one of my favorite illustrations from the book.

Here's what it looks like now.

Something recently I added to her nursery is this Wallternatives Vinyl Florals From the Heart and added an A Classic Letters Monogram decal inside.  I've never used vinyl wall decals before and I'm in love!  I loved how easy it was to apply to the wall, and the great thing is that it doesn't damage the wall, hallelujah!  I think it adds such a fun and colorful statement to her nursery.  Here are some other decals from Wallternatives I really love: Rose Bouquet Frame, Regal Frame, and this Pride and Joy.

I made her changing table cover.  I found some fabric on Etsy and followed this tutorial, it was really easy and only took about a hour to make.

Some wall art I've collected over the past couple of years.  A picture of my great grandma whom my daughter is named after.  Two pieces of antique lace my second great grandma made, and a painting I found on clearance at HomeGoods.  The dresser we painted with lacquer paint in a yellowish white color and added some glass vintage drawer pulls.  The rug is from Mohawk.

These Madame Alexander Dolls were mine as a little girl.

Here's the little girl in her crib.  That tapestry looking underneath her crib is a silk rug I found at an antique show that's from the 1920's for $10!  It normally doesn't sit there on her crib because she's started to destroy it, but for our little photoshoot I'd thought I'd bring it back out again.

Here's the prints from the Mother Earth's Children Book, aren't so so much fun?  This was a super affordable way to create beautiful art for her room.  I found the frames on clearance at Joann's when one of their stores was relocating.  I got a got a gold paint pen.  Took scotch tape and taped off both of the edges of the frames and painted it with the pen.  And that's it!  It was so easy and it gave the frames a custom and high end look.

Talking to herself.

I hope you enjoyed a little tour of her home sweet home.  Hopefully it will inspire you for your nursery.
